Maya had many colleges she was thinking of attending but she narrowed it down to four colleges.  UConn, Duke, Tennessee and Georgia. She finally chose to go to UConn where the legendary coach Geno Auriemma was coaching.  When at UConn she was the first freshman to be named the Big East Player of the Year. She won it later again as a freshman.  Later on, she was drafted by the Minnesota Links as the number one pick in the WNBA.
