Maya's career pretty much started when she was three when her mother hung a basketball hoop on the back of their apartment door, but when Maya got drafted as first pick to play on the Minnesota Links team for the WNBA she really started to win many awards and work very hard. In 2011, Maya was named rookie of of the month for July and August. She also played in the WNBA All-Star Game. In the playoffs, Maya was her teams second-leading scorer. In October 2011, Maya became only the second player in league history to win Rookie of the Year honors and a WNBA championship in the same year.
